How to Print Sticker Sheets at Home
What this guide covers
Printing sticker sheets and label pages at home is straightforward once you understand the two critical factors: choosing the right sheet layout by dimensions and printing at actual size. This guide walks through both in plain language.
Step 1 — Choose the right layout for your label paper
Label paper is sold in standard layouts. The layout is described by how many labels fit on one sheet and the physical dimensions of each label. Common formats include:
- 30-up (1 in × 2⅝ in) — the most widely-available address label format, 3 columns × 10 rows
- 10-up (2 in × 4 in) — larger labels, good for shipping or badge stickers
- 6-up round (3 in diameter) — circular stickers, 2 columns × 3 rows
- 6-up (3 in × 3½ in) — square-ish product labels for jars or packaging
Check the packaging of your label paper for the dimensions, then match those dimensions in the tool. If your paper is not a standard size, use the "Custom dimensions" option in the Sticker Sheet Maker.
Step 2 — Enter your text (or leave blank)
In the tool, the "fill-all text" field copies the same text to every label on the sheet. This is ideal for return address labels, name labels for a single person, or any sticker where every cell is identical.
For sheets where each label has different content (like a class list), print one sheet per name by changing the fill text between prints.
Step 3 — Adjust font size and colors
Font size is measured in points (pt), the same unit most word processors use. As a rough guide:
- Small address labels (1 × 2⅝ in) — 8–10pt works well for a name and address
- Medium labels (2 × 4 in) — 12–18pt is readable for most uses
- Large labels or round stickers (3 in) — 16–24pt for a name; 10–12pt for longer text
Step 4 — Print at "Actual size"
This is the most important step. In your browser's print dialog, look for a "Scale" or "Size" option and set it to 100% or Actual size. Do not use "Fit to page" — this scales the content slightly and shifts label positions, causing misalignment.
On most browsers: File → Print → More settings → Scale → 100%.
Troubleshooting alignment problems
If your text or outlines are shifted relative to the label paper, try these fixes:
- Confirm you printed at 100% scale (not "Fit to page")
- Check that the paper is loaded straight in the printer tray
- Try adjusting the top and left margins in your browser print settings
- For consistent results, use a dedicated label paper brand whose dimensions match your chosen layout exactly
Using blank templates
If you prefer to write labels by hand, the Blank Label Templates page lets you print any layout with empty cells and a dashed outline. Print on plain paper or sticker paper, then write or stamp each label by hand.
